In our latest feature, meet Ron Oppenheimer, a distinguished member of the Railbird board of directors. Ron is instrumental in shaping Compliance policies through his role on the Regulatory Oversight Committee and contributes significantly to the Disciplinary Panel, Appeals Panel, and Market Outcome Review Committee.

With a remarkable career in commodity markets, Ron held key roles at the New York Mercantile Exchange, Merrill Lynch Futures, and served as the General Counsel at Vitol Inc. His insights have left a lasting impact on energy trading and regulation, evident through his memberships on influential committees such as the CFTC’s Energy and Environmental Markets Advisory Committee and the Business Conduct Committee of the Intercontinental Commodity Exchange (ICE). Currently, he serves as a public representative on the National Futures Association’s Board of Directors.

Beyond the futures industry, Ron actively engages in volunteer and not-for-profit activities, including serving on the Executive Committee of the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center of Houston. His current focus on addressing food insecurity is reflected in his volunteer work with Berkshire Bounty in Massachusetts and Boca Helping Hands in Florida.

Ron holds a BS and an MBA in finance from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a JD from American University’s Washington College of Law. Apart from his professional pursuits, Ron is an avid amateur photographer specializing in street photography and abstract/impressionist images.
